Tập Cận Bình đến Washington
China’s Vice President, Xi Jinping, has arrived in Washington to start a 5-day official visit (cuộc viếng thăm chính thức 5 này) to the United States.
Xi landed at (đáp xuống) Andrews Air Force Base on Monday on his first visit to the United States since taking office (nhậm chức).
He will meet US President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.
The leaders will discuss the situation on the Korean Peninsula and in Middle East countries such as Iran and Syria, as well as the US trade imbalance (mất cân bằng thương mại) with China.
Xi will then travel to Iowa and Los Angeles. He visited Iowa 27 years ago as a local official (viên chức địa phương). He will reunite (hội ngộ, sum họp) with US officials as a gesture of friendship (cử chỉ thân hữu).
Xi, who became vice president in 2008, is expected to assume the nation’s top post (vị trí cao nhất của đất nước), General Secretary of the Communist Party, succeeding Hu Jintao at a party congress (đại hội Đảng) later this year.
He apparently (có vẻ như) wants to use the trip to raise his profile (hình ảnh, thanh thế) both at home and abroad.
